Xia
Salon Xia is a hair salon interior in downtown Pasadena, California. The project is a tenant improvement and rebranding for an established local salon. Instead of traditional rows of styling stations, two freestanding hexagonal towers float within the space, giving each of the twelve stylists an open and equally oriented station. Hexagonal shapes repeat in the reception desk, waiting bench, dressing room, ceilings and lights. Colors and materials refer to the Southern Californian and urban setting. The radial layout uses 23 percent less floor area for each station.
Xia Salon by Clay Holden Architects was highlighted as an innovative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Xia Salon was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design award which celebrates excellent design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
