Yongle Palace Myth Illustration

Yongle Palace Myth

Yongle Palace Myth is a series of cartoon character illustrations based on the frescoes of Yongle Palace in Shanxi, China, which were painted during the Yuan Dynasty. The mural figures are simplified, exaggerated and decorated to suit modern taste, and elements such as cranes, lotus flowers and ribbons are added. The illustrations are drawn with vector software, and curve tools keep the light feeling of the clothing and the line art of the original murals. The prints are produced in four colors to encourage public interest in the murals and their protection.

Yongle Palace Myth Illustration by Huo Kai was featured as an outstanding representation of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Yongle Palace Myth Illustration won the Bronze A' Design Award in Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design in 2020. The A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design competition which celebrates excellent design of logos, posters, infographics, brochures, packaging designs, business cards, book covers, billboards and more.
