Oscarina
Oscarina is a handmade chair inspired by Brazilian modernist furniture of the 1950s. The design uses only two materials, wood and woven cane, both closely linked to Brazilian craft tradition. Straight lines are combined with hand-turned forms shaped on a lathe. Each part is cut, sanded, turned and glued, then varnished, and the cane is fixed into channels cut in the wood. The name refers to the Cathedral of Brasilia by Oscar Niemeyer, which inspired the lines. The chair measures 525 by 497 by 858 millimeters and suits many interiors.
Oscarina Chair by Linda Martins was highlighted as a grand representation of industrial design by the A' Design Awards. Oscarina Chair was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2021. The A' Furniture Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design recognition program which honors exceptional design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
