Erhu Chair

Erhu

Erhu is a chair inspired by the erhu, a traditional Chinese string instrument. The design uses national culture as a language of modern furniture and explores a contemporary Chinese style. The structure is simple, with only two parts: the seat surface and the legs. The chair back, seat surface and front leg form one piece of curved plywood pressed in a premade mold. The surface is veneered with ash wood and walnut, and the legs are made of walnut. The shape of the back leg recalls the hoof shaped leg of Ming style furniture. The curves follow the human body.

Erhu Chair by Han Mei was recognized as an outstanding example of industrial design by the A' Design Awards. Erhu Chair received the Bronze A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2023. The A' Furniture Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design accolade that honors excellent design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
