Ceremony Stool

Ceremony

Ceremony is a backless chair designed for sitting, drinking tea and conversation. The frame is made of walnut and joined with traditional Chinese mortise and tenon joints. The structure reduces the amount of material used, while the seat remains stable and comfortable in use. The seat surface and the legs are cut by computer controlled machining and then refined by hand polishing. The chair is delivered for assembly by the user. The form refers to Chinese ritual culture, in which sitting is understood as a courteous act. The chair measures 400 mm in width, 320 mm in depth and 430 mm in height.

Ceremony Stool by Lu Yi was selected as a grand example of industrial design by the A' Design Award. Ceremony Stool received the Iron A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2023. The A' Furniture Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design competition that recognizes excellent design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
