The Giving Tree Clinic

The Giving Tree

The Giving Tree is a pediatric clinic in Yonago, Tottori, Japan. The building is designed to resemble a forest, with wall patterns that evoke trees and mountains. Two separate entrances and separate toilets are provided for general patients and patients with infections, so that the two groups do not cross. The examination rooms sit at the centre of the plan and have rounded ceilings that filter natural light. A wooden deck reached from the waiting room serves as a play area. Long eaves shade the large south window in summer.

The Giving Tree Clinic by Yusuke Tanaka has been featured as a creative example of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. The Giving Tree Clinic earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2024. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design prize which honors outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
