Rising 1
Rising 1 is a two-story wooden house built in Tottori, Japan. The exterior is unified by single-color tiles, which give the building a simple and calm presence. Few windows face the outside, so a high level of privacy is kept. The rooms are arranged in a continuous loop around a central courtyard. From the living, dining and kitchen area, all rooms can be seen across the courtyard. A double-height space and high windows bring soft daylight into the interior. The land area is 305 square meters and the building area is 145 square meters.
Rising 1 House by Yusuke Tanaka was recognized as a grand representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Rising 1 House was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2026. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design recognition program which honors superior design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
