NYC 2050
NYC 2050 is a city masterplan for New York City that responds to rising sea levels. The plan studies the history of the edge of Manhattan and shows how the city can adapt once again for the future. Flooding is accepted as part of daily urban life, with Venice used as a reference. The masterplan presents the changes needed for a flooded city to remain a vibrant and important cosmopolitan centre. The proposal is supported by research on climate predictions and is presented as a series of digital photo manipulations in a square format.
NYC 2050 City Masterplan by Walmir Luz was highlighted as an outstanding illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. NYC 2050 City Masterplan was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Urban Planning and Urban Design in 2016. The A' City Planning and Urban Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design award that honors superior design of masterplans, zoning proposals, infrastructure designs, landscape blueprints, public space concepts, urban renewal projects, transit oriented developments, sustainable city designs and more.
