Marugo
Marugo Shinbashi is a wine bar and restaurant interior located on a busy street in Shinbashi, Tokyo. The circle of the Marugo brand sign is repeated through the interior to improve visibility and recall. A wine red tiled wall and a buttoned bench carry the circular motif, while colored copper plates of Takaoka copperware cover a full wall. Cube brick tile and mahogany wood complete the material palette. Indirect lighting was adjusted with a full-size mockup so that light reads clearly from each circle. The space covers 105 square meters.
Marugo Restaurant by Futoshi Masuda has been featured as a grand representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Marugo Restaurant was awarded the Golden A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design recognition program that rewards superior design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
