Owspace
Owspace is a bookstore in Hangzhou, China, covering about 2800 square meters on three floors. A book wall ten meters tall rises beside the stairs and guides visitors upward. The facade unfolds like an ancient Chinese scroll. French windows bring outdoor greenery inside by day, while indoor lighting makes the building resemble a light box at night. Arched bookshelves let natural light reach every corner. Bookshelves and desks are made of stained hardwood, and a warm black color scheme unifies the floors, which hold reading areas, dining, a concert hall, a gallery and a picture book area.
Owspace Bookstore by Cheng Yu Hsieh has been recognized as an innovative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Owspace Bookstore was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design competition that rewards exceptional design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
