Alternative
Alternative is a genderless fashion collection of fourteen items, including tops, bottoms and outerwear. The collection is inspired by ancient unisex garments from Western and Eastern cultures, such as the Greek chiton, the Roman tunic, the Chinese shenyi and the Thai jongkraben. Each item uses flexible connections, materials and folding, so the fit can be adjusted to different bodies. The garments are presented on male and female bodies. The intent is not to hide the body but to blur fixed dress boundaries and support self-identity.
Alternative Genderless Fashion Collection by Yu Pei Kuo has been highlighted as an exceptional representation of fashion design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Alternative Genderless Fashion Collection won the Iron A' Design Award in Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design in 2021. The A' Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design competition which honors excellent design of runway collections, dresses, suits, skirts, outerwear, jackets, apparel, garments and more.
